1.98 [SEVERE] Files going to the nirvana while cut-and-paste

Post by scooterXnview »

The bug is verified on XnView 1.98 German, Windows XP SP3.

If you have more than one XnView instance, files or folders cut with Ctrl-X and to be pasted into the Browser of another XnView instance sometimes cause these files or folders to get completely LOST! They cannot by found in the source nor in the destination folder, not by specialized undelete tools either.

Do you have 'recycle bin' settings?
Are you able to reproduce it between 2 xnview sessions?
Pierre.

Hi Pierre,

no, I don't have any special recycle bin settings nor any tools managing it for special purposes. At the first time I thought it was my fault of having made a wrong click or so, but at the second time I was shocked of having lost two important files. So you do can imagine I wasn't keen to see that again. I'm a software engineer and experienced tester (done some work for ACDSee, a photo software, and other tools), but I never met an issue of that kind.

XnView somehow seems to have problems with copy/move file operations between two instances. I think the cause for this is the clipboard (no, I have no special Windows settings for it). There is an occasional issue of not copying marked files to the clipboard when I try to paste them into another instance, so unfortunately I'm not able to reproduce it for ... well, it's occasional.

The XnView instance management produces other 'features' I mentioned in another post ('1.98 Annoying features to fix'): 'An open file view in any XnView instance window locks this file for other XnView instances, so you have to switch to each instance to find which instance has this file opened in a view in order to close it and being able to delete it eventually.'

Here is my .ini file:
