Move to & Copy to Borked

Post by Akovia »

XnViewMP - Version 0.35 beta (unstable) (Jan 13 2011)
Libformat version 5.77
No non-stock Plugins

Xubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) 2.6.32-30-generic SMP i686 GNU/Linux
Xfce 4 Desktop Environment - version 4.6.1 (Xfce 4.6)
Gnome 2.30.02

Hi,
I installed the 1.7 version but it looked like 8 bit graphics and was acting strange. Like the desktop would overlay in the preview window. With the install of the beta release, it actually looks like the windows version I'm familiar with and works "mostly". The biggest reason I installed this was for image management, as I haven't found anything even remotely close on Linux yet, save feh which is over my head to set up all the custom scripts I'd need and then have to remember the keys.

Anyway, I didn't see others here with this problem so I don't know if this is a bug, or a problem on my end.

Copy To & Move To act like they work and actually seem to for a single image at a time, but mutli-selections are haywire. The command goes through and it looks like the images got moved, but not all show up at the destination and you are left with the same multi-selection highlighted but are now selecting the different pictures that have filled in the empty spots.

Dragging to the folder pane doesn't do anything.

The default folder used in either Copy or Move To dialog is left empty on subsequent actions and when you arrow down to select the last used folder, it always selects the 2nd last folder you used instead of the last. It also doesn't select the next image in the list after the operation which requires a right arrow to get the next image in the preview. As I was doing this a single image at a time it gets tedious fast. =\

Alt+M > Down > Up > Enter > Right
Rinse, Repeat

Lastly, it won't set the color (Black) for previews or fullscreen mode. It takes the change, but it never takes even after a restart. I haven't delved to deep into other things yet as I went straight to filing images, but will try to report anything else I notice that I can't find already addressed.

If it's something I'm doing wrong, a heads up would be sweet. If not, I hope this helps with the feedback. (I'm excited to see this nice and stable in Linux!)
I'm still kinda green on Linux so I'm sorry in advance if I've overlooked anything.

Keep up the Great work,
Ako

A little update:

I decided to remove the older 'stable' version, but wasn't sure how, so I just read the install script and deleted everything it referenced with no apparent repercussions. When I was searching the forums for the proper way to uninstall I ran across the deb creation script thread and decided to give it a go. It worked like a charm and am glad to see it made available this was and just wish it was linked to from the downloads page, even if it doesn't come prepackaged, as that script couldn't have been easier to use. (and now can uninstall on demand)

With that done, I decided to do some more testing:

Base folder of 25 images
Drag & Drop to Folder Pane (any amount) = Cursor changes to a circle with a / through it
Drag & Drop to Folder within main window = Only copies, no move
Cut images = No option anywhere to Cut & Paste (NM, Found 'Not Implemented Yet')
Copy To or Move To - every other image in folder (13 selected) = This actually worked, but once the operation finished it still had quite a few remaining images highlighted and the status bar reported that 17 images were selected even though there were only 12 left in the folder.
Fullscreen Background Color = This finally worked after I hand edited the .ini file.

Features:
Clear recent folders in Copy/Move To Dialog <-- Any plans?
Background Color of Preview Window selectable?

This may be information that is already known, but I couldn't find reference to it which makes me think I've overlooked something obvious. File Management operations are pretty key and can't imagine it hasn't been brought up before. If it's something stupid on my end, or am not searching the right terms, feel free to scold me but please tell me how to fix if it can be. (I found one person with this Drag to Folder Pane problem but is using win7)

Thanks,
Ako

..If this should be in the bugs forum, please move it and accept my apologies. My first instinct is that it is a fault on my end before assuming a bug.

You can't "copy/move to" more than 1 file??
Dragging to the folder pane doesn't do anything.
Not yet implemented...

Ok, for last folder used, but can't reproduce the problem of 2nd last folder...

you means option/Browser/Preview background color? I can't reproduce...

Hi again,
I have not used this in a long time but reinstalled it when I upgraded my ubuntu to 12.04. Just wanted to let you know that it is now incredibly better than the older versions I was trying and I'm so glad you have continued to pay attention to and develop the multi-platform edition. It is now better than gthumb which has been my default for a while and it feels like coming home to be able to use xnview again. Copy&Paste/Drag&Drop operations still need some work, but if that slows me down I can always use gthumb for just that type of work. I look forward to when I can uninstall gthumb permanently and not need any other tools for the job.

Big Thanks for all your hard work!
