Not Enough Memory

Post by JohnSkliros »

Hello. I just downloaded XnView and tried to open a 70MB JPEG file. I got the message "not enough memory".
As it happens, this PC has 12GB of RAM and 8 cores and is running Windows XP 64 bit.
I searched the forum without finding anything useful.
Can someone please assist.

Hello xnTriq (yep, I can believe that!).

I see you've been around a long time and you've responded to thousands of posts. I sincerely hope you did a better job of those responses than you did with mine!

You brusquely chucked two links at me which I duly went to. I gleaned from those links that I should try someting called editbin and use it to tamper with your executable. Why don't you do the tampering with the excecutabe yourself before you make it available for download - huh?

Anyway, just exactly where am I supposed to get this editbin from? I've wasted quite a lot of time searching for it and gotten nowhere.

The program is a 32bit application and any of the kind have a limit which a huge jpeg and/or a panel of many thumbnails can approach. Using details view and not using preview of image might gain extra performance in some circumstances.

From post Often reported problems:
Often reported problems:
Program crashes with high memory usage.
Exceeding 2GB for a 32bit application is a common problem on any OS. Some freeze, fail, or do nothing at the limit. Related info: Memory Limits for Windows Releases
To avoid: Limit size and number of thumbnails created. Limit uncompressed size of files used.

Yes, he did - thank god.

And to my mind your reply is an effrontery to every people in a forum which try to help the others and spend a lot of time. I think you have missed the intended purpose of a user-to-user forum. Take a look at the common netiquette - and change your style of posting.

Please accept my heartfelt apologies, Mr. Grumpy Sklerotis.
I was quick to assume that someone with your kind of blinkenlights has to be a power user or must at least have basic knowledge of x64 architecture.
Peter and marsh have already responded in the most appropriate fashion, teaching you a lesson or two.
(Thank you, gentlemen!)
So there's not much left for me to say, except: I am not the developer of XnView.
But that's just one of the many things you've gotten wrong, dear.
Again, I'm deeply sorry for having added to your obvious confusion and causing you grief.
I sure didn't mean to expose your ignorance & cluelessness or make you humiliate yourself publicly.
Friends?
