IPTC - What is "ApplicationRecordVersion"

Hello,

I recognized that XnView writes "ApplicationRecordVersion 0" to some images where I edited the IPTC-Data. I'm just interested in what that means, because I didn't find any documentation of this field. I only appears on some images and just when "Keep current value if new value ist empty".
