Slideshow: Check for new images

Post by gerdybug »

Program is working great but hit a snag. As the program is runinning (we want it to run 24/7 untouched!) we are dropping new images in the folder every 15 minutes, the problem is that unless we close the current slide show and rechoose to strart it again none of the new images will show up.

In short when program/slideshow is running full screen we are putting new images in the folder ever 15 but they will not show up unless we stop the current slide show and hit go again... help!

You would like that slideshow takes automatically new pictures in the folder?

Yes! Right now we can start the program in fullscreen slideshow, no problem here, everything works perfect. BUT if and when we add new images to that directory/folder the "running fullscreen slideshow" DOES NOT pick up the new images and display them, it only plays what was in the directory/folder when it was first started. So in short, I start the slideshow full screen with 5 images in the directory/folder and then 5 minutes later add 5 more images making it 10 the program will only display the first orginal 5 that were in the directory/folder when I started it. If I exit and the re-satrt the slide show it will then display all 10. This does me no good, we need it to contimue to run and pick up and display any new image dropperd in that directory or folder.

Perhaps a slide show setting:

[x] Watch for new images

Well, to bad that's not an option. Am amazed how slow the support is here. I have even sent emails asking for help on this. Time to move on. Trying FastStone image viewer, maybe i have better luck!

Sometimes I'm amazed what some people expect from a forum. Luckily we have the Rules and Guidelines that those people never read:

+1

An option that makes XnView checking for new images would be good. XnView allows for adding folders to the list of displayed files. Each folder that has been added by the user should be checked for new images.

Very good option, but another additional idea.

I've described it sometime ago here: View pictures added to a folder automatically

So the only thing missing now is the option that the diashow is not ending after the last picture and instead waiting for new ones to arrive, with "loop" disabled offcourse.

Just checking the option "check for new pictures" I can not get it to work. Even if I enable "loop" new pictures in the folder are ignored.

The sld file is as follows:

Code: Select all

# Slide Show Sequence
Timer = 1.000000
Loop = 1
FullScreen = 0
PlayMode = 2
WinWidth = 640
WinHeight = 480
MouseNav = 1
TitleBar = 0
Fit = 0
StrechVideo = 0
AudioLoop = 0
High = 1
CenterWindow = 1
OnTop = 1
Frame = 0
ReadErrors = 0
RandomOrder = 0
ShowText = 0
Text = <Directory><Filename>
BackgroundColor = 0
FontName = "Courier"
FontBold = 0
FontItalic = 0
FontHeight = -13
TextOpacity = 255
TextColor = ffffff
TextPosition = 0
Effect = 1
EffectMask = 16777215
"D:\pictures\"

You would like that slideshow stop at the end, and wait for new pictures?

Yes, exactly. As described in the linked post, my camera can save the pictures to the hard disk directly. So I can use the monitor for verification.

Also for work this would be good. We build industrial camera based measurement devices. And a software which always displays the last picture which has arrived in a folder would be great.
