1.97.4:Multi-line IPTC Captions still don't "break"

Post by Silversleeves »

By "break" I mean: start a new line at the appropriate marker in the string.

Take this one for an example:
CAPTION IN TEXT EDITOR:

She looks vaguely like a Klingon
(and she probably doesn't even watch Star Trek).
Written to the JPEG file using exiv2 0.21.1 in Cygwin, the same CLI application reads it back as:

Code: Select all

She looks vaguely like a Klingon
(and she probably doesn't even watch Star Trek).
Likewise in IrfanView (v4.25) in Windows and Gwenview 2.2.4 with the kipi "Image" plugin in GNoME Linux.

Meanwhile, in XnView 1.97.4, I see this at Edit>Metadata>Edit IPTC Data:Caption tab

Code: Select all

She looks vaguely like a Klingon(and she probably doesn't even watch Star Trek).
(Curiously enough, when I pasted that in, it pasted as two lines -- even Windows' clipboard saw the newline marker in it!)

I don't know what codepage exiv2 uses to write its IPTC, but I suspect it's the standard for most applications, as Andreas is a stickler for such things.

Any chance of getting this changed or improved?

Could you send me a example file?
