.IMA extensions

Post by Janney »

I have a picture in a photo albumn on my computer that I can not open. It has a file extention of .ima. When I tried to find what type of file this extension is in order to find a program to open it, I found in the File Extentions Source that Windows XP sends you to, that the first listed ima extension is AOL Instant Messenger Grey Scale Image (America Online, Inc.) and gave XnView as a link. It is possible I saved something from an AOL friend. So I have downloaded ver.1.74, but can not find how to convert this file to something I can view.
Can you help me find what I am looking for?

Welcome to the forum :) .

Try Menu > Tools > Batch Convert or Ctrl+U. But backup your original images first.

Before converting your images using XnView, you should first make sure that you can actually see them. For this you start XnView and browse to the directory where your image files are located (navigate as if you use MS Explorer). Then double-click on an image and see whether it is displayed in XnView. If this all works o.k., you can convert the images using the Batch conversion (see Dreamer's post).

Actually I doubt that .IMA files of AOL are supported by XnView. AOL uses proprietary formats, see topic AOL art-files. Perhaps someone can check the list of supported formats or Pierre can post here whether this is supported or not.
