Samsung RAW batch conversion halves the pixels

Post by Squashed »

Saving Samsung RAW files in batch conversion halves the number of pixels. Unless I am missing something, this should not happen?

This is what I have done to test the problem:

Select a Samsung RAW file (file type .SRW), click on properties, the dimensions are 4688x3116, # of bits 48. I right click, Batch Processing..., no Transformations, hit Go.

I click on the properties for the converted .jpg, the dimensions are 2344x1558, # of bits 24 (of course).

If I open the original RAW file and then do File>Save As..., then the .jpg has the correct dimensions - 4688x3116, # of bits 24. If I use Convert into JPEG, that works correctly also.

Also, on the Image Properties (right click>Properties) dialog for the RAW file, it shows Bits per Pixel 24?

Do you have enabled option/Read-write/Raw>high resolution?

Hi Pierre,

I think I got myself confused during my earlier testing, for the record, here are the results of my latest test:-

Original File dimensions = 4688x3116

Hi Res >>>>>>>>>>>>> Off >>>>>>>>> On
Batch Processing...>>> 2344x1558 >>> 4688x3116
Convert Into JPEG >>> 2344x1558 >>> 4688x3116

However, File>Save As... depends on the following:-
A. If the focus is on another file (blue rectangle and file name is white on blue text) in the browser, then right click>Open on the original file, followed by File>Save As..., then the .jpg will be 4688x3116.

B. However, if the focus is on the original file, then right click>Open, followed by File>Save As..., then the .jpg will be 2344x1558.

This happens regardless of the Hi Res setting, which is confusing because if I do method B when Hi Res is on, then the .jpg has the wrong dimensions. Also it will be wrong if I do method A when Hi Res is off.

I also noticed that the status bar in browser view shows 2344x1558 regardless of the Hi Res setting. The Image Properties and the Tooltip that shows when I hover over the file both show correctly 4688x3116.

If I Open the file with method A, the status bar on the Image view shows correctly 4688x3116.
If I Open the file with method B, the status bar on the Image view shows incorrectly 2344x1558.

Also, if I Open with method A, it takes a long time, with method B it is quick.

Hope this helps you to find out the explanation. Thanks.

If you use view mode to save the file, please be careful at option/View>Camera raw settings

Hi Pierre, I still have a problem with this issue. Is it a bug and will it be fixed?

The issue is:-
1. In browser view, click on a Samsung RAW file (.SRW), status bar shows 2344x1558 pixels. Should be 4688x3116.
2. In viewer mode, status bar shows 2344x1558 pixels, should be 4688x3116.
3. File>Save As... .jpg file is 2344x1558 pixels, should be 4688x3116.

Tools>Options>Read/Write>Read>Camera Raw>High Resolution is checked.
Tools>Options>View>Misc>Camera Raw is Full size.

Version = 1.98.5

thanks,

You can change the setting here option>Preview - Camera RAW
2. In viewer mode, status bar shows 2344x1558 pixels, should be 4688x3116.
If Tools>Options>View>Misc>Camera Raw is Full size is checked, i see that
3. File>Save As... .jpg file is 2344x1558 pixels, should be 4688x3116.
Do you have opened the file from browser?

Hi Pierre, after I changed Tools>Option>Preview - Camera RAW = Full Size, all three problems are resolved. The status bar shows the correct dimensions - 4688x3116 - in each case. I did open the file from the browser. Thanks for your help.
