there are so many browser layouts available and they look almost the same but one is missing: it is not possible to have the thumbnail pane vertical over the whole screen.
file association is strange - example: if setting .ai format not to associate, xnview doesn´t remember the setting (.ai is not associated anyhow)
at least i like the amount of options in xnview for customizing the programm

Yes, this is a good idea. Perhaps the user could also optionally specify the buffer size for each direction. In that case the number of images cached would differ based on image sizes.
