Thumbnailing issue

Post by soulky »

I wonder what could be the reason for following issue:

Folder with different media files. Windows explorer displays thumbnails fine. Xnview has issues displaying the same files. It simply does not create thumbnails for several of them.
I tried with Xnviewmp and it created thumbnails for all of them like Windows Explorer.

What could prevent Xnview from creating thumbnails when Windows Explorer can (meaning this does not seem to be a codec issue)?

Did some more digging and it turns out to work well on a different computer which has basically all the same codecs installed.
So currently there is one computerw here thumbnailing works and one where it doesnt work.
On both computers thumbnailing with xnviewmp and Windows Explorer is working.
What besides a codec issue could be the reason for that?

Ok now I have to correct my statement above because something seriously is broken now:
Now thumbnailing no longer works on both computers. This is what happened:
On the computer where thumbnailing did not work, the situation was as follows: Let´s say a folder with 50 files, thumbniling worked for file 3, file 10, file 11, file 13. When I used the second computer it started to create thumbnails fine for files that have been skipped by the other machine. Then suddenly stopped lets say at file 30. It simply did not create any more thumbnails.
Now the situation after deleting the cache several times is that it creates a few thumbnails. When I press "optimize database" it creates 2 more thumbnails and stops. When I press "optimize database" again, it creates 2 more thumbnails. And so on and so on.

Again: This is weird as Windows Explorer and xnviewmp create all thumbnails fine. :?

I don't have experience with thumbnails, but maybe it is a cache and / or db problem? Less memory, no permissions, something else? There are some threads here discussing the usage of cache.

It is so weird because it has been working on both machines.
And it is weird because it is working with Windows Explorer and xnviemp.
