Tab closing at the tab

tab close like similar to internet explorer
If X takes up too much space would it be easier to implement the internet explorer 7 way of closing tabs. Only the active tab has an X on it or when users hover the mouse over the tab like google chrome where a red circle with an x shows and user clicks on it to close it? This would be a nice feature if used with touch screens. Where a user taps the tab on the screen with their fingers and an X shows up for user to tap and close it. Anyways this method of closing is much better suited for touchscreen when there is no access to keyboards. Don't you think so?
