Perhaps this explanation helps a bit:
You have two user-defined filter which can be used for including or excluding files:
The checkboxes above the edittext for entering the file extensions sets the filtering for your user-defined filter. If you uncheck all checkboxes you have an exclude filter. If you check some or even all checkboxes, you have an include filter.
FAIK, there is only one file list for both the browser and the image view. This means that custom filtering affects your files listed in the browser and listed for viewing.

Unlike…Espermachine wrote:I put XCF in the upper space as you can see in my screenshot, and they are now filtered out.
At the same time i have AI, PS and PDF unchecked, still i could see the psd files. Or does PS not stand for Photoshop file ?
I tried putting psd in the space below and i can still see them....
- PS (PostScript)
EPS (Encapsulated PostScript)
AI (Adobe Illustrator)
PDF (Portable Document Format)

I stand corrected, thank you.XnTriq wrote:… PSD (Photoshop Document) is not a PostScript format, which is why you have to add the PSD extension to the exclusion list as you did with XCF.
Even with this information psd files are still displayed.helmut wrote:Perhaps this explanation helps a bit:

Whatever i set 'View -> Filter' to, the psd file is still visible. XCF files on the other hand, do get filtered out (depending on the filter setting).
Even if i set Filter to Image, the psd file is visible.
Re: how to control which file types to browse
Perhaps the PSD files are considered as images and the user-defined filters do not have priority (which would be wrong and a bug). Could you please try a bit more and see what happens when you uncheck all for checkboxes of "Image" temporarily? Are PSD files still displayed, then?Espermachine wrote:... That was my thought as well.helmut wrote:Perhaps the PSD files are considered as images
I mean they are kind of images, just with layers. Similar to an XCF file.
The psd files disappear when i uncheck 'Images'.Could you please try a bit more and see what happens when you uncheck all for checkboxes of "Image" temporarily? Are PSD files still displayed, then?
Re: how to control which file types to browse
O.k., thank you for trying out. It seems that the user-defined filter has less priority than the predefined filters. As a consequence you cannot influence the handling of files included in the predefined filters. I'd consider this a bug.Espermachine wrote:...The psd files disappear when i uncheck 'Images'.helmut wrote:Could you please try a bit more and see what happens when you uncheck all for checkboxes of "Image" temporarily? Re: how to control which file types to browse
Both XCFs and PSDs are considered to be images. If they contain more than one layer, they are treated as multi-page images like TIFFs or ICOs.Espermachine wrote:Whatever i set 'View -> Filter' to, the psd file is still visible. There seem to be two bugs:
- If the cache is disabled and I switch Filter By from Custom (XCF and PSD excluded) to All (XCF and PSD included), the browser doesn't create thumbnails for the XCF and PSD file in the current folder.
- The browser creates a 4-in-1 folder thumbnail with an excluded file format (PSD).

Re: how to control which file types to browse
So i have to check 'Other' ?XnTriq wrote:Both XCF and PSD are considered to be image files. If they contain more than one layer, they are treated as multi-page files.
I can still see it.
Re: how to control which file types to browse
I don't think so. The checkbox(es) for Show item in view » Other tell(s) XnView whether or not the excluded files are to be hidden when View » View As is set to Icons, List or Details.Espermachine wrote:So i have to check 'Other' ?
The problem I'm facing is that — no matter what I tried so far — I haven't been able to reproduce the behavior/bug you describe
