Nothing. When cmd_useToolbar is disabled, the toolbar stops displaying when you least expect it.

Well then, that's a good result, right?

You're welcome.

This wasn't witchcraft, or some bug in XnViewMP. Either you were accidentally hitting the key sequence, or something else was hitting it for you.

Other than sloppy fingers on your part, I can think of one surprisingly common reason why this might happen...

Do you have a Logitech mouse? A lot of people do. If you have a Logitech mouse, and you have bound keys to some of your mouse buttons (like a mouse button for switching tabs, perhaps) then the Logitech software might be causing this problem. It's happened to me, and it's aggravating.

Logitech Options (or whatever they have variously named their mouse software over the years) is notorious for not handling modified key sequences properly. Google "logitech stuck modifiers" and you'll learn about it. Basically what happens is if you have a key sequence like Ctrl-PgUp mapped on your mouse, with great frequency the Logitech software will fail to "release" the Ctrl key assertion when it is done sending the key sequence. The consequence of this is that when you try to use your keyboard to type something afterwords, or click something with the mouse, it is like the Ctrl key is being held down. T becomes Ctrl-T. Left-click becomes Ctrl-Left-Click.

This is actually easier to detect if it's the Alt key, because menus start pulling down when you type on your keyboard. Detecting the stuck control key can be less obvious. Try clicking on files in Windows Explorer. If Ctrl is held down, you'll get a multi-select effect. Tapping the Ctrl key a couple of times might release.

This link provides a tip on how to tweak the Logitech software so you can still use modified keys but avoid the problem.

If you believe your own fingers are not to blame, then check into other software on your computer, like your mouse software, AutoHotKey, things like that.

Anyway, I'm glad you're sorted out.

Good luck...

Hello, I believe the translation is not quite accurate. What I mean is that disabling the keys for cmd_useToolbar does not work either.

And no, I do not have a Logitech mouse, just a keyboard, hehe, but I do not have any keys configured.

The mouse I have has the typical buttons for scrolling through web pages, forward and backward, plus another button for closing pages/applications. It does have a driver so you can configure the buttons however you want, but when I reinstalled Windows, I didn't install the driver because those buttons work the same way as with the driver, so, in order to not have more things loaded in memory, I didn't install the mouse driver.

Ok well the translation gave the opposite of what you meant then. That's not good.

And you disabled the shortcut for both the browser AND the viewer right? It must be done twice.

Delete the xnview.ini file completely, and do NOT reconfigure settings. Just use it at defaults for a while and see what happens.

What I'm going to try is to see if you can set another key combination for cmd_useToolbar other than the Control+ key.

Although right now there is no key combination to show/hide the toolbar, the mouse doesn't have to interfere at all.

I have deleted the xnview.ini file several times, even editing parts of it, and it still hasn't worked.

What I don't understand is what you're asking me about disabling the shortcut for both the browser and the viewer.

You say the shortcut is disabled, but you still have the problem.

In Settings:Shortcuts, there is a menu, that lets you select browser shortcuts and viewer shortcuts. You must disable the shortcut both for the browser and viewer separately. Two actions.
shortcuts.JPG
1. Select Browser from Menu
2. Set shortcut to None
3. Select Viewer from Menu
4. Set shortcut to None
5. Click OK
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Okay, thank you, now I understand. I didn't notice those options, browser/viewer. The viewer had the keys enabled. What I can't be sure of is whether they are enabled because I left them enabled, or whether they were never disabled because I was only disabling the browser keys.

Now they are disabled in both the browser and the viewer.

Let's wait a while to see if the toolbar stays visible.

Good, let’s see.

I think those shortcuts are Default, so they would be enabled any time you delete xnview.ini

When you next respond, please double check your transaction to make it means what you want, if you still have the problem or not! :D

The more I elaborate to explain it, the more complicated Google's translation becomes.

I have now configured it, tested it, and the toolbar in the viewer is displayed, but that does not mean that tomorrow, or in a few days, it will not be hidden again. I will let you know if that happens again.

Just add “good” or “bad” at the end of your post. That will translate.
