so perhaps in crop, having 'save' & 'save as'?
My view is, it should be as simple as for the "Rotate / Flip" tool: Do the change (crop/rotate), save, done!
This said, something is missing vs other Gallery app. A backup, capability to undo immediately, tomorrow or next week. Something like creating a hidden copy (like deleting) before saving the modified copy.

I just checked. Without the authorisation "Access all files", pretty all changes made from the Gallery, including Stars (just once), Resize (everytime),... systematically 2 questions to give access. I find it cumbersome. Here again there is a risk to "loose some clients" as it may take some time, days before a new user would go to Device Memory. If you select "Not now" you'll not be prompted again until you restart the app :(
