I'll complete my answer. By changing some options related to views in the portable xnviewmp (hiding panels, hiding thumbnail labels, and removing ratings from the toolbar), the covers have stopped being displayed.

Même problème ici : avec XnviewMP 1.7.1 additionné d'un ancien fichier .ini (pas si vieux, version 1.6.5 si j'ai bonne mémoire), les vignettes cbr et cbz ne se construisent pas.
Les vignettes cbr et cbz s'afficent correctement en supprimant le fichier .ini.
Voulez-vous mon ancien fichier .ini pour voir ce qui bloque ?

Now I can see the CBR thumbnails, but suddenly the video thumbnails no longer show frames of the video (only the player icon)

Ok, I think I understand what's happening.

If I remove the "thumbnailFilter" line from the .ini file, I lose the display of video thumbnails.

If I go into the options and check "Show as thumbnail" again in "File list/Custom filter/Video", I see the video thumbnails again, but I lose the .cbr and .cbz thumbnails.

Another problem I've found, I don't know if it's related, is that when I opened a .zip file that contained a folder, the folder icon was displayed with an image of one of the images inside. That makes sense. If I click on that icon, I can see the images inside (all without decompressing the file). The problem is that now I open another file (a .cbr in this case) that also has the images in a folder, the thumbnail of this folder is the one from the folder of the other .zip file. I have rebuilt thumbnails, deleted the cache, and nothing.
