viewing & converting pdf

Post by Guest »

I've had to reformat my machine and seem to have lost the addon/pluggin that allows one to view pdf files. Can't remember what it is except that i viewed pdf with no problems.

Which 'convert' allows one to convert from pdf to jpg. I'm sure i did this several months ago and can't remember how. I'm a teacher and wanted to remove the answers from the last page of a pdf file. This doesn't seem possible so i wondered about converting the file to jpg and then deleting the last page.

thanks

For viewing PDF files with XnView you need GhostScript installed on your computer. Please see FAQ "How to display vector formats like PDF, AI,...? GhostScript!" for more details.

Thanks Helmut

I knew i'd found it before just couldn't remember where. I tried to download the source code file ghostscript-8.54.tar.bz2 which was silly. If i have the XnView on USB which i'm considering how/where do i put the zip version gs854os2.zip - just in a directory on the USB?

THE snag…

:) Hello ! Welcome aboard !

• As far as I experienced, XnView looks for the GS in the boot-disk only ! I mean : Where the used <Windows> is set.

• For instance, I had an old C:\ boot-disk with Win 98 SE - no more used - and I had to reinstall a new GS in the new boot-disk E:\ with XP-Pro. But still, GS IS in the C:\ hard-disk !
- Unfortunately, there is not any setting allowing the user to state where the GS is located… :|

• Hence, I doubt that you could place it in a (big) USB-stick currently.
- Whether you'ld use this with a computer which has not any GS itself in its boot-disk, that'll not work.

- This lacuna might be fixed up, in order to allow a real fully “portable” XnView in a close future…

 Kind regards,
Claude
