For the Options -> General -> Keyboard/Mouse
Please, for the love of all that is good, add an option to customize the scroll speed (up/down/left/right) with the keyboard cursor keys. The default speed is insanely slow (as in not fast enough for me). It is one of the main reasons I do not use XnView, but would definitely use it if this one little option were added.
I saw this exact same suggestion posted in JANUARY 06 (and it is now DECEMBER 06) yet even in the latest 1.90 b2 I have not seen this option anywhere.
Customize Scroll Up/Down & Left/Right speeds

Depends on…

• Prior, since you quote another thread for the same topic, why not post in it?

• Here, I use often the arrows to scroll, it's not as so slow as you say.
• I'm not sure that the speed could be adjusted from the programme.
- I guess it depends on the hardware you are using too.
- Before, I used a P2 @ 350 MHz, it was slooowwww !
- Now, with a P4 @ 2.4 GHz, it's OK…
• I use also the grab-hand cursor with the RMB, it's very fast to move the image…

my computer can run circles around this program.
amd64 3700+ san diego @ 2.2ghz
1gb ram
if this program can slow that down by scrolling an image then i will smash my computer into a pile of rubble with a hammer.
i am suggesting this addition because i dont want to use the mouse in conjunction with the keyboard. and i am posting a new topic because i felt it was inappropriate to dig up a 1 year old topic that seems to have been mostly ignored anyway.

Re: Customize Scroll Up/Down & Left/Right speeds
I just tried what you described and scrolling a big image from one to the other side takes quite a while... You mean like it is quite common for the mouse scroll wheel? À la "1 rotation equals 1...20 lines" but here "1 key input equals 1...200 pixels"?Kallen wrote:Please, for the love of all that is good, add an option to customize the scroll speed (up/down/left/right) with the keyboard cursor keys.
BTW, you're aware that the keyboard input rate can be modified in you system settings? I have it way higher than default as I wanna delete/add a lot of chars when holding a pressed key... /Georg
Yes, like you said it does take quite a while to scroll from one side of an image to another using the keyboard. This is a great image viewer, but it's the "smallest things" that can annoy you.
I use other image viewers that scroll smoothly and quickly, but lack certain functionality that XnView has. Naturally, I'd like a single program to be able to have the best of both worlds, and XnView is still in active development so it makes a great choice to improve upon.
and to note the keyboard input rate settings... changing it for the sake of one program will affect its performance for all other programs. i'd rather leave it to individual software programs to handle their own input settings so that each has their own "perfect" customization.

You guys added the feature in one of the new betas, good job listening to the people. I wanted to make it clear that no one is demanding anything, I was merely voicing the fact that it has been requested long ago without being heard.
my suggestion to improve on the scrolling even further, if possible, is to make it scroll smoothly. that is instead of jumping a certain amount of distance in a direction, have it fluidly move as you hold down the arrow keys.
