Keyboard navigation issues

Post by DAlbum »

Hi,

First of all, thanks very much for this great application. Excellent piece of software! Almost perfect!

I was using ACDSee for some time, but like XnView more. Keyboard navigation has few minor issues however, but perhaps there are configuration settings that could change them? I was using the Windows version.

1. When I press Enter on image thumbnail, enlarged image is displayed. Then I press PgDn several times to view the next few images. Then I press Enter to return to thumbnail mode. However, the very first image is selected now, not the one I just stopped viewing. So if I'm going to continue viewing enlarged images, I need to find the image I stopped on in the list - a bit unexpected and time consuming.

2. I'm browsing folder XXX/YYY/ZZZ with keyboard navigation. Then I press ".." to return to XXX/YYY. Folder XXX/YYY is displayed all right, but selection focus is not set to ZZZ now. It becomes a problem when YYY has multiple subfolders and I want to view them all. In XnView after returning from subfolder, I need to recall what subfolder I was viewing and find the next one. Very time consuming when XXX/YYY has 20+ subfolders.

3. Is it possible to assign a keyboard shortcut to JPEG lossless transformations? I often have 100+ images to rotate at once and it's slow to to click a thumbnail button with mouse then move mouse to the screen center and press a corresponding button with mouse again. In ACDSee I would have pressed Shift+J and 1..4 to do the job.

4. When viewing image in Full Screen mode, only mouse wheel and Space/Backspace can be used to switch to the next/previous image. Home/PgUp/PgDn/End switch to windowed mode first, and that's not very intuitive IMHO.

5. It would be great if Backspace can be assigned to return to previously viewed folder (as in Windows Explorer or ACDSee)

As I said, I'm new to XnView and perhaps there are configuration options or registry settings that could be changed?

Thanks for reading this rather long post.

I agree with all of your wishes.

1. I used ACDSee too, and this behavior is useful. Maybe not easy to implement as XnView is coded now. Pierre?

2. and 4. This is the standard behavior of Windows Explorer (I think). XnView should behave like this too.

3. This will be useful.

The Linux version (1.50) currently is less user-friendly than Windows one. I say this because mouse wheel does not work at most places, '+' and '-' keys of Numpad does not change zoom... Maybe a lot of other small annoyances.

Need answers..

Hey!
I also tried to migrate from ACDSee to XnView, because it's faster and free. But the navigation-issues are making me crazy.

The most important thing is:
"1. When I press Enter on image thumbnail, enlarged image is displayed. Then I press PgDn several times to view the next few images. Then I press Enter to return to thumbnail mode. However, the very first image is selected now, not the one I just stopped viewing."

Nearly the same thing is when you delete a file in thumbnail-mode..
After XnView finished deleting, the cursor jumps to the first file in the directory. But logically it should have been at the next thumbnail (that one after the deleted one)..

-> Very "unexpected and time consuming".. as you said already
Can anybody give answers/solutions?

Best regards, jingles

same here.. i am also migrating from acdsee because it really started to suck from version 4 on...

and i also miss the backspace functionality and the ability to navigate completely in the thumbnail preview window... because that's what makes image browsing on acdsee so fast: never having to use the mouse for toggling between windows...

please make sure these suggestions are taken seriously :)

You have Options/Borwser/Synchronise...

Ok, i add it.

Ok

I must improve the fullscreen mode!

Ok, i add it!
