Layout menu: Easier handling
Currently, the layout menu (View > Layout) has seven entries. I think it's hard for people to see the difference.
Some suggestions:
- Separator between the normal layouts and the film strip layouts.
- The symboles for film strip layouts look a bit different to the normal layouts. The difference could be empasized a bit more. The special thing about the film strip layout is the alignment of the thumbnails, this might be stressed somehow in the symbols.
- Currently people talk about layout #4 or #7. Why not add a number in the menu so that all people talk about the same layouts without counting them? (The number might not look that nice, though).

Yes, useful
• Hi !
• I agree, all these improved details would be useful and not a big deal to add…

Hi !
• Thanks to support the helmut's proposals !
• I made a quick test, it's quite easy to add the number of each layout as text in the menu(s) :

- It's not a fake, just added in the resources to get a clue…
- Whether this could pose a problem with the bitmaps, the numbers might be painted on them, that's pretty annoying since all bitmaps would be to remake (2 sets, black & white and coloured)

The problem---

Again !
- The width might be auto-adjusted - like this occurs for all menus in Win- so my pic is not quite explicit, but the resource editor doesn't show the assigned bitmaps (not supported, that is a pity !)

• Indeed ! I meant that I don't know if the number as text + the bitmap can be painted… I'm not a programmer. We need numbers and pictures\symbols.

Currently it's not possible!Clo wrote:• Indeed ! I meant that I don't know if the number as text + the bitmap can be painted… I'm not a programmer.We need numbers and pictures\symbols.

Re: The problem---
What about adding those numbers directly in the picture (on a transparent background to the right)?xnview wrote:Currently it's not possible!
Edit: I missed that previous comment from Claude...
I would prefer not on the picture itself (so that people still easily see layouts) but rather on the right (to put emphasis on the layout rather than on the number).Clo wrote:Whether this could pose a problem with the bitmaps, the numbers might be painted on them, that's pretty annoying since all bitmaps would be to remake (2 sets, black & white and coloured)![]()

Yes, why not. Do you agree??Olivier_G wrote:What about adding those numbers directly in the picture (on a transparent background to the right)?xnview wrote:Currently it's not possible!

• The numbers on the bitmaps are OK, but you must change each, enlarge and add the digit…
Or else, I agree, this might look nice and handy.

Re: The problem---
I also agree. Perhaps you could use Arial 8 (Windows 98, 2000) or Tahoma 8 (Windows XP) as font.xnview wrote:Yes, why not. Do you agree??Olivier_G wrote:What about adding those numbers directly in the picture (on a transparent background to the right)?xnview wrote:Currently it's not possible!
The layout symbols might be refurbished a bit. With some less details they would be clearer. I've drawn a bit and think they have become a bit better, but it needs a designer to really improve them.
Original and Draft #1 (without the suggested numbering and separator):

Tree and number

• The bitmaps patched by helmut are indeed better.
• However, personally I think that the representation of the tree is not explicit, it looks like rather as a list.
- I would prefer a classic tree, like shown below with a number, at right or at left, just to get a clue :

• I'ld have a weakness for “Right”, but it's a bit wider…

Ok, when you'll have good bitmap, send me themhelmut wrote:I've drawn a bit and think they have become a bit better, but it needs a designer to really improve them.

Perhaps we can ask Yuri??

Re: Tree and number
I like this Treeview symbol a lot! (So much... that I think Thumbnails and Preview are now the weak parts and should be improved...Clo wrote:

The outline/separation idea by Helmut is also great.
About the Numbers: I would prefer flat ones instead.
