Help file not up to date

The availble Help file is dated 10 October 2006 and is not up to date. This may be deliberate, but I could not see mention of this.

I would be useful if it was indiacted if errors, changes omissions etc in the help file are required at this stage?

Help file will probably be updated in the last RC before going Final, I wouldn't worry about it.

- I suppose that you are talking of the official Help, are you not ?

- It's the same for our online Manual…

• Many features have been changed¦added in the 1.90, so it's not possible yet to update the docs,
this needs a quasi-stable version, like ckit points out.

• It shall be a huge job to update these docs (both) and this needs a good while…
- I don't know the delay for the official folder, but for the online Manual, user Paul “Ouistiti” and I estimate it's one month at least after the last RC'll be released. We began for some details which seem to be stable, though, but this is not online.

Yes, currently we have a problem with help file. We have no more english writer.

Doc-2-Help? Just kidding - we just had a discussion and decision not to use Doc-2-Help.

Honestly, we currently use MS HTML Help Workshop for creating help documtents. The advantage is that it is all free and other people just download it and use it. This way we have English, French, Polish, and Korean help document, which is very good. The documents are outdated, though.

The disadvantage of MS Help workshop is that you need HTML knowledge to write the help and writing up the help is not so straight forward since you have to think of the formatting and the HTML tags a lot.

So if someone knows of a free or cheap solution which allows for writing up structured help documents easily, please write here. Best is a not so proprietary solution - perhaps a combination of a HTML writing tool and MS HTML Help workshop.

Just found the freeware HelpNDoc in those lists: 1, 2
Would it fit the bill? (I don't have enough experience in html, help files to evaluate it... )

It's freeware for personal use, but it's not too expensive so it's worth while evaluating it. Thank you for the tip, Olivier.

  Easy HHK is a is an HTML Help development tool that generates an hhk index file that is used to compile a chm help file. It reduces what could be hours of work into mere seconds.
  Easy HHK parses a list of index words from the topic files found in an HTML help project. Parsing of the topic files can be filtered by optionally using a default list of exclusion words and or a secondary list of exclusion words.
  Words can be moved from the parsed list to an exclusion list . Exclusion lists can also be edited using a built in exclusion list editor.
  The default exclude list can be maintained and optionally used. Words that are typically not wanted in an index such as “the”, “and”, “is”, “a” .etc. that are in the default list will be excluded when the index in generated.
  Optional secondary exclude lists can be maintained for any help project. For example, the word “click” may occur many times as a verb and never as a noun in the help topic files. It may not be that useful to have the word “click” in the index.
  The list of words parsed from the topic files can be exported to an ASCII text file for further review and spell checking.
  When the parsed list is ready, simply click the Build Index button to generate the hhk file to compile with the help project.
