The message box which pops up and tells you to restart XnView when you tick or un-tick the Use XP style menus checkbox (Tools » Options » Interface » Windows) has jibberish text in its title bar (“€ô□”/“êRàwù□□□”) on my Windows 2000 installation.

Is there a common word for those square characters? I've been calling them a half dozen different names, some bad.
"Missing glyph spacer" would be the official one, since it's the character windows inserts for any character not in the font. I don't know what'd be a great easy name.
