Another way to win IrfanView users over would be to create a IrfanView interface mode for XnView (we already have Browse mode and View mode) IrfanView mode would be like View mode except the toolbar would be limited, have only small icons and the main window would fit the image most of the time.
It's just an idea, feel free to flame me
Also, I would like to point out that ABXZone.com is not a "download portal" it's a major resource for computer users which I'm a member of. I assume by "download portals" you mean download.com, simtel.com, majorgeeks.com and others.

Perhaps a light version of XnView, with a small interface (only viewer), and only most used format (jpeg, gif, tiff, tga, ..)???

I'm not so sure about limiting the number of formats supported. You probably could post a poll regarding this.

the "IrfanView mode" is a good joke, you Australians really have humour.
For all I know CorelDraw has a "Adobe PhotoShop" mode, but I don't think that
a.) Many people know about this mode.
b.) Many people use this mode.
c.) Adobe PhotoShop users switch to CorelDraw because of the "PhotoShop" mode.
Also I doubt that people love the way IrfanView behaves and love its features. I think the matter is that they love what they know and just don't know that there's other good or even better applications out there.
Helmut,
I'm sorry if the idea offends you but I'm just trying to think of ways to make XnView more popular while at the same time making XnView faster. Whether you like it or not, on my machine IrfanView is faster at displaying standard JPG's than XnView and I would like to see this change.
Pierre,
I'm just beginning to see this may have been a poor idea on my part. Forget about the Light version and concentrate on XnView once again. Probably should close the Light version poll as well.

<Moderator's note: Dreamer's original post was lost when splitting posts, so only his quote, here.>
Dreamer wrote:I've tried starting of xnview with and without plugins...
- with plugins - about 3 seconds
- without plugins - about 1 second
This could solve my idea - Light mode - here Light version
I put it here too...
Dreamer wrote:Light mode feature / button - if enabled, only few image formats would be on, no plugins would be loaded (or just few), browser should be on too...
I think it would be better than light version, because...
- starting of xnview would be faster
- anyone could turn it on/off anytime
- it could be turned on at startup automatically (for faster start) and if needed (or automatically if going to browser) it could be turned off...
Your research/findings are very interesting. I will of course be conducting my own tests to confirm this. However, I do not see need for a light version now. The use of the standard version without the plugins and maybe even language files should be enough.

I don't want a light version! I want light mode - automatically disable/enable some features, plugins... Now it's possible with manual removing of plugins...
Hello !
- Almost six months ago, I wrote to Pierre about the plugins loading :
« - Le programme ne devrait charger que la DLL pour le type de fichier lancé - quand cette DLL est- nécessaire-
au lieu de tout charger au lancement... ??? » English :
« - The program might load only the DLL needed for the opened file type - when such a DLL is necessary-
instead to load all plugins DLLs at start-up …»
- I don't know if this is possible, but it should help, I guess…
Kind regards,
Claude
