Crash when clicking on a folder containing .avi file

I just downloaded XnView 1.74 (win-full.exe) for my Win XP Home and I was impressed.

But then I clicked on a folder containing several files (images and AVIs and MPGs) and XnView tried to make thumbnails of them and then XnView crashed.

I moved the files away one by one and XnView crashed until I removed all DivX-encoded AVIs (XVid seems to be fine, though).

Any ideas how to fix this?

If not: is there a workaround so that XnView doesn't try to make a thumbnail of DivX-AVIs?

Oh, there seems to be a discrepancy between
-the number of characters allowed for the message subject and
-the number of characters displayed

- You could try to set the Option : Browser >>> [x] Don't start browser thumbnail, also uncheck the box : [ ] Launch Browser at Startup

• Please, could you explain clearer what you mean with "containing .a", the full name of the folder should be helpful…

XVid-avis work well for me, but if there is an DivX-encoded avi in the folder, XnView crashes.

I found a workaround for this: Options->Browser->Thmbnail->"Show first frame of AVI/MPG1": no

strange: DivX is played normally in the preview window, but "show first frame..." crashes the program

Strange, on which OS? Do you have a little DivX file?

I tried these settings:

Don't start browser thumbnail: yes
Launch Browser at startup: no
Show first frame of AVI/MPG1: yes

and XnView keeps crashing with DivX-Files. Furthermore, the first frame of mpg-Files looks strange now (green and distorted).

I have: XP Home, SP 2 installed
Videocodecs:
ffdshow (for playback)(not sure which version exactly)
XVid (for encoding)

If I disable "show first frame of AVI/MPG1" XnView is okay.

It doesn't matter if the DivX-File ist only a few MB or 700 MB, XnView keeps crashing.

Ok, so far I can't reproduce this. Most of the time I work in "Details" mode.
Make sure that in Options -> "View" -> "File List" -> "Play Movie" is enabled, otherwise XnView can lock up!

My Video codecs:
DivX Pro trial v5.2.1 for Encoding\Decoding DivX files
VP v6.2.6.0 for Encoding\Decoding VP6 files
Keopi's XviD v1.0.2 for Encoding\Decoding XviD files

I do not recommend FFDSHOW unless you really do need it.

BTW your AVI file is DivX 3.11 Fast-motion and MP3 codec encoded.

I've got no problems with xvid, divx and ffdshow too.
I think, problem could be in the latest divx codec, so try ffdshow instead of divx and xvid.

Well, if nobody else has this problem, than it perhaps has something to do with my old windows installation and codecs or something like that.

I think we can leave this alone, because the workaround I've posted (disable "show first frame") is okay for me, and the bug should be gone with my next Windows-reinstallation
