I'm a new convert to XvView, upgrading from a 10 year old version of ACDSee. Having a time figuring out the plugin system. I downloaded the zip, archive, and id3 plugins and dumped them into the addons directory, per the instructions. Now what? I can't tell that that does anything obvious. You can't tell that they're "properly installed" because only things in the plugins directory get reported back through the app (I think).
Archive lets me drill into files. No great mystery, there. That one works.
I've got no extra entries in the context menus which would allow me to zip anything (if that's what the Zip plugin allows).
ID3 -- the one that I really wanted to see in action -- seems to do nothing whatsoever. No entries anywhere that I could tell. No extra panel in "properties", nothing. Can you edit tags with this plugin, or just view them?
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Re: plugin problems
It's only for viewing them in the preview panel....akahige wrote: ID3 -- the one that I really wanted to see in action -- seems to do nothing whatsoever. No entries anywhere that I could tell. No extra panel in "properties", nothing. Can you edit tags with this plugin, or just view them?
Pierre.
If you click on a mp3 file, you must have near preview (playbar), a property panel. No?akahige wrote:I don't get a preview panel for mp3's. If it's a picture, I get the tabs for preview, properties, etc., but with mp3's, the preview area is just blank.
Have I missed a setting or something important? What do I need to look for to get this to show?
Pierre.
No, actually, I don't.
I've got XnView installed on another machine, though, and I do have a preview bar on that one. I was doing most of my testing on this machine that's having the problem and it didn't occur to me to check the other. When I installed the id3 tag plugin on *that* machine, it worked as you said it should.
I wonder why it's not working on this one... Do you think that's a bug? Is there anything I should check?

Do you have the playbar? Perhaps option/file list/preview => audio filesakahige wrote:No, actually, I don't.

Nope. In fact, I copied the entire setup from the machine that works, and got the same result.xnview wrote: Do you have the playbar? Perhaps option/file list/preview => audio files
There must be some kind of bigger problem with this machine. Don't know what that might be, but the issue that I was having -- which I reported in the bug forum -- regarding XnView video previews triggering Symantec's Tamper Protection alert don't seem to happen on that machine, either.
I think it's time to reformat this tired old box...
