If you use the <alt><prtsc> to capture a window and then you open xnview there is no way to paste that image into xnview. Usually with MS picture all you do is click on Edit and then click on Paste and you image appears.

Hello Mr. Librarian !
Edit » Import Clipboard (Ctrl+Shift+V)
• Sorry, error ! As long as no image is displayed, that menu entry is :
File » Import Clipboard (Ctrl+Shift+V)
mqsymth
• Also, you can add a button in the tool-bar for the Import clipboard command see in the online Manual linked above :
Synopsis >> Options details >> Tool-bars with extra-icons…

What is this world coming to?! One just cannot trust anybody anymore these days.
Clo, you better stay alert and keep a watchful eye on me and the information I'm passing out.
mqsymth, have you considered activating
Launch Browser at Startup (
Tools »
Options... »
General »
Operations »
Startup)?

Thanks. I used the File->import clipboard.
It pasted the stock chart into xnview correctly. the top of the stock chart consisted of some menus strips with a grey background (like the top menu strips in xnview).
However, when I saved the chart as a gif with 256 colours the grey menu background became PINK! Why is that??? The same paste and save in another picture app saves the chart colours exactly.

- Open the GIF file in XnView.
- Go to View » Display Colour Information.
- Move the eyedropper over the (pink) background area.
- Look for the INDEX number in the tooltip next to the cursor.
- Go to File » Save As....
- Select GIF - CompuServe GIF as the type of file.
- Click on the Options button.
- In the Parameters field of the Write options dialog for GIF format, tick the Set the transparency value to palette entry checkbox and enter the INDEX number of the color that's supposed to be transparent (pink).
- Return to the Save As... dialog box and save the image.
