When I copy & paste an image into a directory where the image exists, instead of replacing the file, as it used to, it pastes another version with "copy of..." in the file name.
This is very annoying as I simply want to replace existing files without having to delete them first. Older versions of XnView worked this way, and I'm wondering if there's a setting somewhere to make the new version behave in the old manor?
Thanks

Re: Copy of?
I do not agree, it's good not to automatically overwrite existing files, simply because many would overwrite wrong files by mistake. The current way is good, works as in windows explorer. There could of course be a dialog, i.e. "Do you want to overwrite ... ?", or options for how to copy/paste - to suite all needs. As default, current way is good.Senorpablo wrote:When I copy & paste an image into a directory where the image exists, instead of replacing the file, as it used to, it pastes another version with "copy of..." in the file name.

Explorer never makes "copy of" files unless you copy/paste from the same folder. I agree that it makes sense to be consistent with explorer - in this case it should act the same as drag & drop, popping up the window with the thumbnails to ask what to do. Copy-paste creating copies within a folder makes sense though.
A related quirk is how if you start dragging a file, but decide against it and release back onto the browser window, it'll make a copy. At the minimum, it needs to cancel when you right click, but presumably like explorer, it should only copy if you hold down ctrl, right?

So a pop-up asking to overwrite would solve the problem? (Instead of making copy)? At first I thought you wanted to have the file replaced without warning, but maybe I jumped into conclusions.Senorpablo wrote:This is very annoying as I simply want to replace existing files without having to delete them first.
I stand corrected.foxyshadis wrote:Explorer never makes "copy of" files unless you copy/paste from the same folder.
Precisely, explorers manner should be default, this way all new users wont make bad mistakes.foxyshadis wrote:I agree that it makes sense to be consistent with explorer - in this case it should act the same as drag & drop, popping up the window with the thumbnails to ask what to do.
