When I select "Image"->"Rotate"->"Custom...", a popup appears.
There I can rotate image freely, let's take as an example image with resolution 640x480.
You can select "Apply to image" to see the effects, as you change the values as in my example:
-Select "Auto crop"
-Insert value 36.80 or 36.90
Almost all image information gets removed, image's height being only about 1 pixel..!
If you have "Apply to image" on, you can replace the last digit with some other number, when it is not zero, let's insert value near to above value, like 36.85...
And what happened? With "Apply to image" on, the image suddenly have no cropping at all...

Confirmed.
A simple way to reproduce the problem:
1.) Open an image with 640x480 px
2.) Activate "Automatic crop" and "Apply to image"
3.) Enter rotation angle "36.80"
--> Image is cropped and becomes very small (which is almost correct, see topic 1.91.5 Auto-Cropping during rotation: Too much cropped)
4.) Enter rotation angle "36.85"
--> Image is not cropped at all (bug

I think I can have a solution for this problem, but not time to work with it before thursday, I think. I have a strong feeling I can find something, which should help. Needs some programming to test it, because it is still only as an idea, not code yet. I think on thursday I should have something.
(Having some speed problems in my connection just now because of the wind affecting outside antenna...)
I promised to tell something on thursday, but also had other hurries, but I have started the process with solving Auto-Crop:
So far, it has passed a long time since I have last time programmed, but I have got variable length and height area rotating correctly. Now under work is "scanning"-feature for the rotated area to solve optimal/ maximum area for cropping. It came out more tricky than I expected, but I believe I can get it, only the idea is tricky to me to convert as program...
As interesting as this problem solving is overall, I have to concentrate on tuning XnView translation in Finnish, for that's really my main part with XnView. Testing all the language parts fitting in place takes time, but that way seeing them in action reveals me many things, which can have better translation. I have found also some translations, which are not correct at all, my fault!
Now back to work with new and old sentences again...
