In XnVie 1.92 there's a new option "Copy of" which controls whether the prefix "Copy of" is added when pasting a file nor not. This is good, but I would prefer the same behaviour in XnView as in Windows Explorer.
Explorer never makes "copy of" files unless you copy/paste from the same folder. I agree that it makes sense to be consistent with explorer - in this case it should act the same as drag & drop, popping up the window with the thumbnails to ask what to do. Copy-paste creating copies within a folder makes sense though.
When copying within one folder, the user wants to make a copy (backup) in the same folder and does not want to overwrite the existing file, in the other case the user does want to make a copy in a different directory and should be notified if the file already exists.
With the "Copy of" option you cannot make XnView work in a really useful and smart way (unless you offer a dialog with "Overwrite", "Rename", "Cancel" buttons which will make handling even worse).
So:
Couldn't we simply remove this new option and make XnView's copy and paste behaviour similar to MS Explorer?
Option 'Copy of' determines file naming when pasting

I'm not sure that all users want that the behaviour change...helmut wrote: Couldn't we simply remove this new option and make XnView's copy and paste behaviour similar to MS Explorer?
If option 'don't use copy of...' is enabled, 'Copy of' is only added when you are in the same folder, and not for different folder
Pierre.

If this was the current and default behaviour of XnView, I'd be happy and satisfied because it's the same as MS Explorer, then.xnview wrote:If option 'don't use copy of...' is enabled, 'Copy of' is only added when you are in the same folder, and not for different folder
I'll check...
