Inconsistent ai to png results on Linux

Post by elkfisch »

Converting ai to png on Linux with Nconvert 4.81 and GS 8.51 is giving different size png files each time for the same ai file. Sometimes the png does not include the preview in it. This causes errors when I then try to convert the png to a jpeg. Windows version does not do this. It is always the same size png file. Is this a GS or Nconvert issue? Will upgrading to 4.84 fix this?

Could you send me the ai file? (i think that it's ghostscript)

I've emailed the files. I tried to use GS 8.61 on windows but nconvert just hangs. I went back to GS 8.51 and that at least returns a file. Does GS 8.61 work with nconvert and ai files? Also - should the -in option be set to ai or pdf for ai files. I thought ai didn't work before but it seems to be okay now with latest nconvert, just doesn't do anything with the latest gs.

I've resolved the bad file issue. It was caused by my code copying the file before nconvert finished writing it. I am still concerned about the variation in file size on Linux. Please let me know what causes this.
