Raw handling in its current state is lacking flexibility. Of course whats very nice, that I am able to use embedded raw-previews. Fast workflow, my compliments on this. But sometimes I need to look at the pictures in full res (e.g. evaluating best small detail version), and thats where I get nothing but problems. First, I have to be very careful where I click because I cant interrupt the raw-decoding. So, I am effectively not able to normally browse thru the pics.
I suggest 2 things.
1. The full size decoding should be self interupting IF user navigates to another picture or presses ESC.
2. I suggest a different rendering method, zoom dependent Raw decoding:
Have a instant Low Quality first view, followed by a still fast refining step delivering screen resolution. If NOW the user chooses to Zoom in, maybe after 2 Zoomsteps, the full/half size version (configurable) is rendered. The user would be able to interrupt at any time with navigating to another pic. On top of this, the fully decoded Raws could be stored into a cache for even more speed.
And the very first low Quality (speed) version could be turned off (distracting in slideshows.) I realize however that all this might be much work.
More flexible raw viewing
