database creation and saving using IPTC field

Hi,

First of all, thanks for all your work with Xnview.

A suggestion for me would be the capability of the soft to create a database of all photo based on iptc field. (like picasa)

This way, a search would be quicker as image folder is read only once by Xnview !

The other idea is to store all information like "categorie" or mark given to each photo in IPTC.

The goal of this would be to have all database INSIDE our photo and not inside a proprietary format. In case of crash of our PC, if we have saved our photos, we could be able to recreate a new database very quickly based on IPTC content.

The exemple of picasa is great : we can add a legend to a photo and this legend is written on the IPTC field "legend" of the photo.

Following this, give a mark to a photo would add a keyword "mark0" in IPTC field of the photo.

For the moment I'm using xnview for editing IPTC field and photo modification but I need to use picasa to search a photo. And I'm not using database creation and modification of Xnview because i don't want to lose all my job if I change of soft or if there is a crash of my PC and I haven't save the database.

It could be great to be able to use database modification of Xnview like give marks to photo or place photo in categories and that xnview add these modification in IPTC field "keyword".

What do you think of it ? I'm sure a lot of people have already think about it and annoyed you with this suggestion, haven't they ?

Is there a technical difficulties to implement these stuff that could explain very few soft use IPTC field to create and SAVE a database ? (for my part, I only know PICASA and Kalimage that do that)
