It seems that the iptc info is not updated if you drag an image to one of the predefined cateogories.

Categories are not iptc, it's a DB

But shouldnt they somehow be related. The very strong point about xnview is that it utilises iptc and meta data in the pictures?

There is another topic about that, i'll add an option to synchronise categories and IPTC

I think it should be standard, not just an option. It is expected behaviour I think.

Not for all users :-)

No, but what would be most common to assume. That the data is saved - as all the other data - in the picture, or that, that particular piece of data is not saved. I think that most people would expect it to be saved, and the people who does not want it saved can get an option, where they can turn the syncro off. IMHO.

No, not for all users and not for me!
I do not want to save my taggeds items into the database by default each times.
category.db is also usefull for some temporaries uses, especialy for tags.

IMHO, I think a program should be easy to use for a beginner. I think the smartest default will be to save it. The fact that you have an opinion whether to save in the file or in a db, says to me, that you know more than most users. Therefore, you should off course have the option to do as you please, but I still think that saving in the file will be the smartest use case for beginner users.
