mpeg frame extraction on Windows XP

Post by segmental »

In various recent versions of XnView, up to and including 1.93.6, the mpeg frame extraction utility isn't working properly for me. It did (and still does) in 1.82.4, the latest non-recent version I have available to me.

In file 1, a 640x480 mpeg file that's 6:29 long (should be about 11658 frames), it reports a frame count of 389321 and an uncompressed size of -1979019264 (yes, that's a negative number). When I specify a start frame and duration, XnView gives me a brief hourglass, then comes back, but hasn't generated any images.

File 2 is 720x480, 18 seconds long (about 540 frames). The extract window reports a frame count of 18653 and an uncompressed size of -2135406070. XnView won't generate any images.

File 3 is a very short clip, 720x480, 8 frames long. The extract window reports 486 frames and an uncompressed size of 480.54MB. No images.

File 4 is a very short clip, 352x240, 8 frames long. The extract window reports 513 frames and an uncompressed size of 123.99MB. In this case, it does extract the first frame properly, but won't get any other frames. It will generate, if asked, as many as 513 individually numbered copies of the first frame.

This smells to me like a word-size or -endian issue. Is anyone else having this problem?

thanks,
Russell
