Don't start Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Service (DONE)
Why does XnView always start the "Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Service"? Which functions of XnView need this service? If it's really needed, wouldn't it make much more sense to start it just when really needed instead of starting it always?
DONE (problem can't get solved as caused by Windows Explorer)

When no device…

• A long while ago, I groused already about the active entries for TWAIN and WIA in the File Menu at start-up
(no file loaded), while I have not any device like a scanner or a camera or the like installed here…
- That could be checked prior, there are indications in Win, I guess.
- Thus, these entries might be greyed in the case, and the service not started, you are right.
- Hence, I support your request !

I just can say that I had a Canon EOS 350D camera installed via USB some days ago. But I've uninstalled all software and drivers of it. In the control panel I don't see any devices, so ...

Driver, no device ?

• Nothing is greyed here either :

• Maybe that occurs when an old driver is still installed, while there is no device at all ?
- It should be needed to check for the device, not the driver only…

Re: Driver, no device ?
I tried the WIA services from within XnView and don't see why I ever should use them. Therefore I would like to disable this although I do have a scanner and a Digicam.

• I'ld bet that Pierre is using his beloved Win 2K still…which os?

- Here, with Win XP-Pro SP1 (En-Fr), the menu entries and the services are "ON"…
