Hi there, greetings from the Southern Heath of Northern Germany...
Have browsed the forum for at least half an hour but haven't found any topic for my question:
Been quite pleased with XnView for several years now and did my very best to spread it around to others, but now I want to update my own installation of it and there's my (maybe silly, but I'd like to do it right) question:
When installing a new version, do I have to uninstall the old one first or can I "darüberinstallieren"?
Generally speaking, XnView installations are independant from each other, i.e. you can have XnView installed on your computer several times.
Action depends on used package
- If you have used the Setup package in your first installation, you should first un-install the version and then install your new version. See Step-by-Step for more details.
- If you have used the zipped package (comes as ZIP archive) in your first installation, you can install another ZIP package of XnView without un-installing the previous version.
- If you are not sure which version you have used in your previous installation, then perform the steps described in "Un-installing XnView".
Un-installing XnView
If you have used the setup version of XnView, it's recommended to uninstall your current version and then install the new version. Please note that settings and bookmarks of XnView will be preserved when uninstalling and re-installiing.
For un-installing you:
1. Go to "Start > Programs > Control Panel > Software"
2. Check whether there is an entry "XnView".
3. If so, select the entry "XnView" and use "Uninstall" button do uninstall the current XnView version.
...okay, done it - silly me, of course. Found the .ini in the directory, when installing in another directory either there's a new .ini or I do a copy manually...as I had to with my 8bf's (saved them beforehand...).
And I saw that the .exe-installer lacks several files that are present in the .zip, so that teaches me...
Again - DANKESCHÖN.
