Ratings

Post by jrbray »

A few comments on ratings, which look like one of the most useful controls in Xnview for me.

When I apply a rating value, it only appears in the long listing after I've moved off the item, which is rather offputting.

I'd like to run through photos applying ratings, and the Ctrl-N, down pattern is awkward. I don't know if you plan to have configurable keyboard mapping, but certainly numeric keys 1-5 would be easier without Ctrl.

Rating is not one of the fields available in Tools/Settings/Thumbnails labels, where it would be very useful.

Rating is also missing from Tools/Settings View Info, unless its well hidden

And a feature request. One reason I'm interested in ratings is so I can set up slideshows for different levels of enthusiasm from one directory tree. So for my holiday snaps friends might see a slideshow of 5* pictures, my parents 4 and 5* ones, and I might want to watch a 3*,4*,5* set. Now I can sort by rating, but then all the 5* images would come before any 4* ones, which would produce a confusion if spread across multiple places. Would it be possible to have a filter by rating setting that allow me to show all photos above a certain rating?

Why, you have an icon for rating already

You can in the category pane

1) If I am in the 3 pane folder view with the photos shown as a list of details and change a rating with Ctrl+3, the Rating column does not change (it does work correctly if viewing as thumbnails). Only with I cursor down to select a different photo does the coloured rating icon appear.

2) I guess what I want is for the Rating to appear in the top left corner description box when a photo is shown full screen, which the Thumbnails settings seemed to influence

3) Ah-ha, never spotted the Category view on the sidebar. That's what I wanted, except I think there is a multi-select bug, as while you can select both Excellent and Good, and both are highlighted with Ctrl-click, only the last category chosen is actually shown in the filter.

BTW, I'm on Linux
