descript.ion file gets lost at times

Post by RSC »

The problem described in the caption appears sometimes when I rename photos in a view mode, not browser, but it happens only once of 100 or so attempts. But it happened to me in the past and today already three times while processing something about one thousand photos so I thought I should write it here. Now I am sure it is a bug, not my fault.

Maybe, it is not just during pure renaming of photos but overall working with them. I rename some, delete other in the viewing mode, maybe a few were renamed twice, or renamed and then deleted, and the descript.ion file perhaps disappears after those operations are finished and I return back from View to Browse mode. It just happened to me again... :-(

You can reproduce it always in view mode?
Pierre.

Not always. but only in the View mode or while swtiching from View to Browse - it is also possible. And only sometimes but enough often to lost three four times while sorting out (renaming, deleting, occassional switching to Browse mode to delete some pics. and switching back) several hundreds of photos. Another thing that I realize after writing here is that I use Microsoft Live ShareFolder, which updates file s on another computer. That my probably cause the problem because I am not exactly sure if it used to happen while I was using non-shared folder. But even though, I think the XnView program should be able to wait if the file is temporarily locked by other process and save it after that. But it simply became deleted and lost. Today it happened me again.

I used variously Vista and XP and experienced it on both.
