Thumbnail quality versus image type (v1.96?)
Hello Pierre,
Since you are working on v1.96 I think it is timely that I mention a problem/inconvenience that I have experienced for some time when generating thumbnails of new images.
For the thumbnails of NEF files to show any editing (eg cropping) that has been performed on the NEF image the Options/Browser/Thumbnails/Appearance "Use Embedded thumbnails" needs to be set to ON. This results in a high quality thumbnail showing edits. This option is also good for TIFFs.
However the same setting for generating thumbnails for JPG files results in very poor quality thumbnails. As a result, I have to continually change the "Use Embedded thumbnails" option depending on what file type I'm working with.
My question is: would it be easy to implement a "Don't Apply to JPGs" sub-option under "Use Embedded thumbnails" . This would be very useful.
Thanks
PETER

Yes. Here are screen captures of JPG images to illustrate:xnview wrote:You have bad quality for embedded thumbnail in your jpeg files?
Use Embedded OFF

Use Embedded ON

I have tried changing thumbnail size to see if that has any affect and it doesn't.

Strange, which thumb size do you use? Could you send me a sample (for example the last picture file on your screenshot)PSHRutPark wrote:Yes. Here are screen captures of JPG images to illustrate:xnview wrote:You have bad quality for embedded thumbnail in your jpeg files?

Strange the embedded thumbnail in your file has a very bad quality...
If you use 128x128, you can enabled 'Create thumbnail from original ...'
If you use 128x128, you can enabled 'Create thumbnail from original ...'

Unfortunately 'Create thumbnail from original ...' doesn't make any difference. Even if I increase the thumbnail size to 150x150.xnview wrote:Strange the embedded thumbnail in your file has a very bad quality...

What was the size of the "internal" thumbnail of poor quality in the image I emailed you?
Thanks

Increased the thumbnail size to 161 and good quality thumbnails are produced!
Thanks.
