I'm wishing to view a number of Commodore 64 Koala Paint images in XnView since XnView supports Koala Paint images in either standard format (.koa) or compressed format (.gg).
The images have been downloaded from the HiResGraphics Library of GEnie Commodore File Library' - see: http://cbmfiles.com/genie/HiResGraphicsListing.html
I've downloaded the following file:
1977 - TIGER GWAYNE 860821 11340
Desc: Koala of a tiger.
However the downloaded file TIGER doesn't display with any file extension (even when Show all file extensions is selected) and the file icon is blank however Get Info says the file is a plain text file. I assume if I simply add the file extension .koa XnView will then be able to properly interpret the file as a valid Koala Paint file and display the picture, yet OS X doesn't recognise .koa as a file extension or rather it thinks I want to change the name of the file to 'TIGER.koa' rather than change the actual file format since File Info still says its a plain text file.
Can anyone here help?
How do I view Koala Paint image files?

XnView is saying it doesn't know how to read the file. The problem isn't with XnView, but with the file itself. It looks like the original picture was saved as a hex dump (the raw image data saved in plain text format). Perhaps you can download the file and try and see if you can get it into the correct format. I'm going to post to one of the popular Commodore 64 forums and see if I can get more specialised help since I'm dealing with what are meant to be C64 specific file formats.
