Look at extra image settings:
<right + click + mouse> on image preview: [ ]Use alpha channel
(that should make display look the same as some web browsers)

It's a 32-bit, semi-transparent image.
  • Tools » Options... » View » View » Use checkerboard pattern as background
    » Transparent areas allow the texture to shine through.
  • Tools » Options... » General » Operations » Ignore alpha channel
    » Transparency won't be displayed.
  • Image » Remove alpha channel
    » Transparency is deleted.

Hm... doesn't work for me.
Your image has a bad alpha channel, disable 'view/use alpha channel'
