When will eps thumbnails be supported?

Post by jmacg »

The ability to see eps thumbnails is important to me, because I create eps graphics and also use eps clipart. Do you intend to include eps thumbnail viewing? I read that you don't have it because of "performnce issues." That doesn't seem to be an issue with the rival program Thumbnails Plus, which handles eps thumbnails like any other type of graphics.

:) Again-again…

• Unfortunately, I don't hold any EPS file here, thus I can't check the following tip :

• Please, have a glance HERE, then try to add EPS onto the Include field, according to the instructions and the image of that paragraph.

Note :  On the real Options box, the Include¦Exclude labels are missing… :|
We hope that the Author will add them finally, it's too unclear.

Could you post a file? Do you have AFPL ghostscript?

:) Hello !

Image Finally I found some EPS samples in the GS folder (forgot about them…) and of course
the thumb nails are displayed OK directly.
Note : It's GS 8.53, old but working fine still (from the good location…).

Eps graphics are not showing on my work computer as thumbnails. If I hit Enter, an eps graphic will be displayed, but it's important to be able to see eps graphics as thumbnails. I'm not at my office now, so I can't try any other eps graphics or send them to you. I've only checked with vector graphic eps clipart, and that didn't work. I'll also try with eps graphics produced by Photoshop, starting with bitmap graphics. If you add transparency to bitmaps inPhotoshop, they have to be saved as eps graphics.

Eps graphics are commonly used in professional design and layout, so this is an important issue, unless you just see XnView as a product for amateur use.

Yes, XnView can read these thumbnails. But remember: Not all AI, EPS or CDR files have previews embedded in them. It depends on the program they were saved with/exported from and on the settings made by the file's author.

  • For AI files without an embedded document preview, XnView displayes the system's file type icon.
  • If an AI file contains an embedded document preview, XnView extracts it and uses it as thumbnail in the browser and for the preview pane (even if %AI3_DocumentPreview: None).
Other than with EXIF thumbnails in JPEGs, embedded previews in AIs are located at the end (after %%EOF) of the file and are either in TIFF (PC) or PICT (Mac) format.
