Where is category info, etc stored?

If we use the category information from within XnView, where is that information stored? Whether it's family info or color Info Favorite info, etc. (I'm thinking of the Categories and Favorites tabs in the XnView Browser window.) What I am wondering about is two things really: 1) Are changes made to the image files, and if so doesn't that effect lossy image formats? and 2) If we move XnView to another computer, is there a database file that needs to be moved along with the image files? Also, if we move a file on the same computer, will XnView no longer know where it is?

Also, does editing IPTC or Exif also produce loss in lossy images?

I could not find any information on this in either Help or the FAQ.
