Audio file peak thumbnails

Post by Skaven252 »

Believe it or not, but I have found XNView an awesome help for browsing audio files. I work in a game company, and we have a large sound effects library. With XNView, I can quickly search for .wavs, browse the results, preview them with XNView's previewer, then drag & drop them to my audio editor. Super handy! On top of that, XNView has the best batch renaming utility ever.

The only one thing that would be really awesome, was if XNVew was able to generate and cache thumbnail peak icons for audio files. Are there any open source libraries that could do this, which could be integrated into XNView?

Small thumbnail icons that look like audio looks in audio editors, such as the free Wavosaur.

I attached a quick mock-up of what I'm talking about. This is what audio files (.wavs, etc) look like in many sample editors. It would be great to have them look like this in the Thumbnails view. :)

However, since audio formats don't usually support thumbnails (some do), I presume XNView will have to generate and cache them somewhere.
