Windows 7 file associations

I've installed it, I've set the file associations in xnview, I've even set file associations for jpg in total commander but each time I click on a jpg in total commander the damn windows photoviewer comes up. photoviewer itself even says xnview is associated with this file. I can even choose to activate xnview from the windows photoviewer but then another instance of the damn window photoview comes up!!!

what the fuck is wrong with this picture!!!! : )

• Just a thought, I don't run Win 7…
You could try to suppress the *.JPG association in Windows (I suffered sometimes the same annoyance in XP-Pro too).
- Then you might get XnView when 2-clicking any JPG…

Do associations misbehave in general or only for one picture? Have a look at http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=16939 maybe my findings help you - although I still have troubles every now and then File association implementation in Win 7 is buggy, nothing that happens only with XnView...

I could only get mine working through the Default Programs thingie in Windows 7.
Either way... Windows 7 is the best OS Microsoft has ever made loving it

I have the same problem on Windows 7 64-bit! XnView was working great on Vista and XP, installed on Win7 64-bit, no errors. then associated the 'most used' file types, but though association seems checked in options, everytime i click on image files such as JPEG it opens with Windows Photo Viewer?

What the hell? There is no 'Open' menu added to context menu of image files, also.

Please somebody (or Pierre) help us or i should say goodbyte to my favourite image viewer XNView.

Hi Pierre,
I'm the administrator of the computer. I double-checked associations in Options, though "the most used" extensions are checked, "none" of them is associated and when i double-click any image file like .jpg "Windows Photo Viewer" and no context menu added like "Open".

Manually creating associations using a 3rd party program just for XnView is a pain. Winrar or other programs have successfully associated their extensions (like .rar) with the system.

I think something is really wrong with your XnView's installer or with the program itself, which was the one i'm using on my XP/Vista box with no problem, but Windows 7 x64

Sure. None of the extensions have been associated. Plus after removing XnView from Control Panel as normal, lots of registry entries remain in registry related to unsuccessfull extension associations. I'm not pleased with it. Your uninstaller is also broken, cannot perform a correct registry clean-up.

Weird? Have you UAC enabled? Or do you have any special settings related to security?

All by default, so i think that UAC is enabled...
After installing it, do you have registry keys for xnview?
