Useful behaviors while in fullscreen mode

Post by wkone »

Hello again :)

XnView is really a wonderful app to browse images! It is so fast that I often browse big amount of pictures in fullscreen mode.
Doing so, I also often miss a few very basic functionalities, and I am sure many users have also though about them.

Here they are (they are really easy to implement, so I am sure it wouldn't be a big deal to introduce them in an upcoming release ;) ):
  • - To be able to do a cut and a copy of the fullscreened image with Ctrl + C or Ctrl + X (ie to put it in the clipboard so that it can be quickly pasted in another folder an Explorer)
Note: That would be great to be able to do so also in the previsualisation tab ;)
  • - To be able to open the Multiple Conversion dialog window for the fullscreened image (ie when we do a Ctrl + U on the fullscreened image, the dialog would open with that file in the listbox)
  • - To have a shortcut to do an horizontal flip of the fullscreened image. This is a very common action that allows a completely new perception of the image, it would be very appreciated by artistes ;). It is just a flip done at display time, not at all a permanent transformation; it applies to the current image only and as soon as we go to another image and come back the flip is not there anymore. Beside it should preserve the actual zoom value.
Note that the key shortcut should be very easy to access, as a Fx key for example, but not combine keys that would ruin the spontaneous aspect of the action
  • Would it be possible to have a fast viewing of the images while the Next of Previous keys are pressed? So far, when we keep one of those keys pressed, the image stays the same, and, if pressed long enough, the last image of the list is displayed when we release the key. The expected behavior is the same as when we press/release the Next key several times very fast
  • At last, a very cool feature would be to lock the zoom value for the duration of the fullscreen session. For instance, let's say you have a bunch of 50 images of 256 x 256 in a folder, and you would like to watch them very quickly at a higher resolution (eg 200%, for the equivalent of a 512 x 512). You display the first image in fullscreen, zoom a bit and get satisfied with the size. Unfortunately when pressing Next to go to the next one, the zoom value is reset and the second image is at 100% :S The expected behavior is to have the second image, and all the others while we are in fullscreen mode, at the same zoom value at the first one.
In practice, how this could be achieved? I think a key toggle would be the best (as for the Alpha option for eg.). Use of a modifier key (shift, ctrl or alt) while going from image to image would not be a good idea because it would lead to conflicts with other shortcuts (the horizontal flip, for instance, that you would like to do at the current zoom value).

XnView is really the best image viewer ever, and I hope these suggestions will help to make it ever better!
Thanks a lot for your support!!

Can someone support these suggestions?

I think they would be really improve the flexibility and the efficiency of the fullscreen experience.
Beside it would be loved by artists who crawl into many reference images - not only me 8)

And last but not least, quite easy to implement ;)

Thx a lot!!
