I want to custom organise my photos in a folder, to create the story of a holiday and then re-name them to hold that sequence, for susequent running on the XnView viewer or burning to CD.
XnView does not give this custom facility it only has pre-set ways of ordering shots in a folder. As a result I am doing minor phot adjustments to odd shots in XnView then exporting a folder of photos into Picasa software where I can move shots around [ drag and drop ]to create the sequence I want and then re-name them to freeze that ordering.
I prefer the XnView viewer, however, but if I then re-export the newly developed folder into XnView it completely changes the sequencing of the shots and destroys what I have achieved.
This appears to be because Picasa like Windows viewers is designed around a numbering system which for successive photos goes - Name,Name1,Name2,Name3----etc
However XnView like Irfanview looks at this sequence and re-orders them in a sequence which progresses as follows - Name1,Name10,Name100,Name101-----Name109,Name11,Name110,----Name119,Name12,Name120,Name 121--etc !! Clearly following different rules - why there isn't an international standard for this which would allow interoperability I don't know. The same problem can also arise with DVD burning software.
Does anyone know of a way to get the XnView software to maintain the numbering sequence and order I can create in Picasa please ? Thank you

Hello,
Maybe you can try to use the setting : View\Sort By\Name (numeric)

Re: How to play photos in a chosen customised order
not just that, if you even just select/tag 2-3pic you'd expect to be albe to view just those, but it still shows all files.

oops66 Thanks, I'm away, it worked a treat. Only got one shot wrong, the first, as XnView must start at Name1, Name2 --- wheras Picasa starts with Name,Name1, Name2 ---so XnView parks 'Name' as the last in the series. I've thought of two ways round that though.

Re: XnView Viewing of photos in a customised order ex Picasa
...Right, I think it's a bug within the XnView Windows v1.9x (this bug does not occur under XnViewMP v0.26)
The first time, the sort "Name(numeric)" is not correctly done and i have one error, but if I go to an other directory and go back to the previous one, I have now 2 errors, so i have this kind of problem too.
Test done with 8 jpg files: file, file0, file00, file1, file2 ,file10, file11, file20
XnView Windows 1.97-3:
First sort, the result is: file, file0, file1, file2 ,file00, file10, file11, file20
Exit and go back to the folder, the result here is: file1, file, file0, file2 , file00, file10, file11, file20
XnViewMP 0.26 Linux (and Windows under Wine):
The result is the correct one: file, file0, file00, file1, file2 ,file10, file11, file20
FI: I use the windows version v1.97-3 (under Linux and Wine)
Does someone else can confirm (or not) under native Windows ???
