Russian characters

Post by V.V. »

Nice program, no any problems under Win XP. But under Win 7 64 bit Pro, labels for files with names in Russian in thumbnail window are not shown at all (just question marks, ???), and as result files are un-openable.
Switching to Russian language (through Tools/Options) works (menu is shown in Russian) but does not resolve problem with file names - still just question marks (????).
All another applications (including Explorer) show file names in Russian correctly.
Thank you,
V.

:) Hello ! Welcome aboard !

• You have probably file-names as UNICODE, and XnView doesn't support this.
- You could try the WnView MP version, which supports UNICODE (but is in beta-stage still…), please see the MP section here.

 Kind regards,
Claude

Thank you for reply.
These files are the same which I see nicely (I mean normal) under Windows XP.
Does Windows 7 64 did some font transformation/re-coding for file names - this I do not know. But probably does not since there is no reason for this. If these files transferred back to XP - they are readable by XnView without problems.

But thank you - I have installed XnView MP (is MP for MultiProcessing? Or for what?), and it works nicely till now. At least in a sense of showing Russian character and showing files. What I see now - there are no options for saving in jpg format, it just saves itself with some default settings (looks like no smoothing and 100% quality).
Also icon in system tray looks slightly ugly (with much worse resolution than for regular XnView), so I need to look for that icon to substitute..
I am happy now, thank you for advice.
