F12 or Tools=>options, try to navigate with the mouse or arrows throughout the options of the left pane (general, interface, browser...) and the focus is loses so it's necessary to clic in each option of the left pane in order to set the correspondent setting in the right panel.
I'm using XnView 1.97.5 on WinXP SP3 with 2GB RAM
