XCF file, fine in GIMP, blacked out in 1.9.6 (WinNT Build)

A screenshot of the attempt to open the file (10 minutes or so ago):



And I know it's OK in the GIMP and GimPhoto because, incidentally, if I turn my chair around right now, I'll see it in a window in GIMP 2.6.6 in Ubuntu 9.04 (32bit).

What might be the cause? Bad or borderline bad XCF file or just a slowly-corrupting XnView install??

I'm installing the latest Win release on Monday. I'll check the same file and give an update.

Sorry -- got rid of it sometime since my last post. Had some problems yesterday morning with a Gimphoto reinstall. That file went, too, when I thought I wouldn't be able to edit it further in any GIMP variant.
