RIOT plugin for dummies

Post by Peter2 »

I saw that RIOT reduces the size of JPG very strong. But for me as image-Dummy is still a question:
What does Riot do?
Is it "secure" in the sense that any other image-viewer can display and print it?
Are the results standard-conform?
Is it fail-safe? (in the sense of standard IT)
I'm asking because we are thinking of using it in office for images which are made for internal documentation. We have to save the images and it is necessary to use the images in some years without any troubles.

So again:
Can I use it without awaiting troubles? (more then standard troubles ...)

RIOT is an image optimizer designed to help you produce smaller standard compliant images. It was especially designed to optimize images for the web, but you can use it for other purposes where size matters. So any incompatibility will not be due to RIOT but to incomplete standard support of some applications.
If you want to make sure your JPEG images will be opened correctly in all applications and devices save them as Standard optimized not Progressive.
Your file will gain a few bytes for larger images but you will be safe.
Some devices or applications may limit the size in pixels also.

Hi Lucian

thanks for your reply. If I want to make some comment to the XnView Plugin - is it better to post here or in your forum?
